Love Yourself To Where You Want To Go | Shawnee Area Moms

I’m so excited to start this series on Brain Management. First of all, I want to make it clear that I am not a mental health professional (yet!) Last year I took a course to become a certified life coach and it ended up being the best thing I have ever done for myself. Before I started the training, I knew it was going to help me personally, but I had NO IDEA the amount of growth and awareness that would come out of it!  In fact, after receiving my certification, I had to take a few months “off” to experience life through my new set of eyes. You may have noticed that I have been pretty quiet the last couple months and that is why. I have been soaking up life through my new perspective and using the tools I learned to help me navigate where I am going. I still have a lot to learn and continue to evolve and look forward to doing this together!  I also started working part time at the county mental health center and am learning so much about resources available to our community.  I have loads of personal experience with mental health struggles and want to advocate for mental health on a personal and (someday) professional level. My hope is to reach those of you who are looking for ways to be authentic and show up the best version of yourself.

As I’ve pondered how to kick off this series on brain management, the phrase, “Meet yourself where you are and love yourself to where you want to go” keeps going through my mind. I don’t know about you but I have been so hard on myself throughout my life. One of the most valuable lessons I have learned from the past year has been to accept myself where I am. I’m not going to get to where I’m going if I can’t meet myself where I am. And I rarely get motivated through criticism and negativity. I am learning that I am the only person that knows what I need. And I don’t mean what society tells me I need, or what my family or friends think I need. I am talking about sitting still and listening to my intuition. Deep down inside, we all know what it is we want/need. And when we take the time to get to know what that is, we can meet ourselves there and get to work. It will take work and it won’t always be fun, but it will be totally worth it. Trust me!

Now don’t get confused and think there will be a magic list of things to do in order to get where you want to go. No, that is not how it works. But once you take some time to learn what your brain is generating, then you can get some leverage over it and start to tweak your thoughts and create the life you really want. That is where the magic is, my friend.

And here is the best part! You get to love yourself on the journey! This may be new territory for some of you (it was for me) and through this process my hope is you will become your own best friend.  You will discover that there is a woman inside of you that has known all along what you need. She just didn’t know how to manage her brain in such a way that would allow herself to go there! I promise this will be the best work you ever do! And I will be here with you along the way. I’ll stand in as your best friend until you can discover your real best friend, you.

So this month we will focus on the relationship you have with yourself. February is a time where we focus on love and I think it’s the perfect time to get a pulse on how much you love yourself. I’ll be posting tools to help you explore this crucial relationship and gain some awareness on what kind of friend you are. 🙂
