SHAWNEE MISSION PARK – SHELTER #8

This is a great option inside SMP if you wanted to avoid the newer inclusive park (which does tend to get busy.) I really love this shelter, which overlooks the lake and the dog park beach – truly a perfect picnic spot on a nice day. Both my 4 year old and 2 year old had plenty to keep them busy here between the two structures. There are several musical instruments, a wide variety of climbing and balance equipment, toddler accessible slides and a fun little spinner. No swings here, but you could jump on the hiking trail and go for a nature walk.

Shade: fair amount
Grill: yes
Geocaches: many caches in SMP, but there is one on the other side of the main road not far away. There’s also one that appears to be at the bottom of the hill, but the description says it MUST be accessed by boat.
