ERFURT PARK (Shawnee)
24135 W 71st St.
My kids and I really love the non traditional playgrounds that feature more nature play, and Erfurt is such a neat spot. I also have German ancestry, so I enjoyed reading the sign about Shawnee’s sister city, Erfurt. This park is about to get even cooler with the addition of a new and improved splash pad, which should open in time for summer! The very large climbing webs are certainly better suited for bigger kids, but the slide, swings, large sand pit, and natural elements are great for toddlers. The homeowners next door also have a couple horses, and we loved watching them. There are two shelters, tons of open green space, a lovely little pond and a 0.6 mile walking trail. The last photo shows the progress on the splash pad, and I’ll definitely post an update once it’s complete because I expect to be here many times this summer. 😁
Parking: large lot provided
Shade: none – pack the sunscreen!
Grill: no, but the larger shelter does have a sweet fireplace
Geocaches: one traditional cache on the west side of the park.
Nearest local coffee: check out @countryclubcafe on 66th Street. They have classic coffee drinks, espresso, house specialties, frappes and smoothies.
