BLACK HOOF PARK – OAK SHELTER (Lenexa)
9053 Monticello Rd.

Lenexa hits it out of the park yet again with Black Hoof Park. The park itself is huge with plenty of trails around Lake Lenexa, but this post is specifically for The Oak Shelter. This delightful area has THREE separate play structures (one specifically built for littles) and tons of natural play elements! Your kids won’t know where to go first! Tons of slides, swings, climbing equipment, monkey bars, tree stumps, and a sand pit. In the summer, we come in our swimsuits because the kids can even play in a little stream of water with a fun little waterfall to splash in. The shelter is large with plenty of tables for a picnic, and there’s even a fire pit nearby. This is a summertime favorite because of the ample shade and the water play, but it’s a winner any time.

Restrooms: yes
Parking: large lot provided
Shade: great amount of shade (except for the toddler structure, which is in full sun.)
Grill: yes

Geocaches: There are 3 near the Oak Shelter.

Nearest local coffee: if you have yet to try @pourcoffeehouse, get on over there. They’ve got you covered with coffee, smoothies, treats (gluten-free options), and more.
